Wagamama continuing to grow, despite TRG challenges

The Pan-Asian restaurant chain, Wagamama, is set to open a new store in Teeside Park, in Thornaby-on-Tees, in the North of England.

Wagamama is owned by The Restaurant Group (TRG), who earlier this week announced plans to sell 17 stores located across the UK, for a range of the organisations other brands – Frankie & Benny’s, Chiquito, Firejacks and Fresh Pizza Restaurants.

The Restaurant Group have also had a number of activist hedge funds lead a revolt due to the pay of senior executives at the company. 46% of shareholder votes at the company’s AGM last week were against the organisation’s pay report.

The new opening in Teeside, for Wagamama, is a sign of strength for the brand and emphasises the dominance of the brand within TRG’s portfolio. Last month, Wagamama also opened a store in Battersea, London.
