Mexican fast food chain Taco Bell has marked a new chapter in its UK expansion by opening in its first UK railway station. The brand has teamed up with One Retail, the travel and transport division of hospitality giant Compass Group UK & Ireland, to launch the new outlet at Birmingham New Street station. Positioned at the station’s main entrance, directly facing the iconic Bullring shopping centre, the site was made possible through an agreement with Network Rail.
The move is significant for both parties. For One Retail, it signals the beginning of a new partnership with Taco Bell as it looks to grow its presence across the UK’s major travel hubs. For Taco Bell, it represents yet another milestone in an aggressive push to widen its national footprint. “Taco Bell’s opening in Birmingham New Street marks another exciting step forward in our rapid expansion across the UK and Ireland,” said Keyur Patel, market leader, Taco Bell UK & Ireland. “We’re proud to expand Taco Bell’s footprint and bring our bold flavours and iconic products to new consumers.”
The timing comes off the back of strong commercial performance. Parent company Yum! Brands recently reported that Taco Bell UK has delivered combined like-for-like sales growth of 23% over the past two years, a figure that underlines the brand’s growing appeal among British diners. Taco Bell now operates around 140 locations across the UK, approximately ten of which are company-owned, with the Birmingham New Street opening suggesting the brand has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.
