A new wave of lockdown across Europe

Most European countries have re-introduced a lockdown or confinement measures to counteract the covid-19 new wave infections. Here it is a summary by country.

 

ENGLAND

The lockdown is to take place on November 5th until December 2nd. The decision comes after the country has passed 1millions infections and it provides for: 

  • Closure of Pubs and restaurants (except takeaways and delivery)
  • Closure of all non-essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues
  • No house holds mixing indoors, or in private gardens
  • Stay home indication to all population, except for work, shopping for basic items, or medical imperatives, caring for vulnerable people, and exercise
  • Schools, universities and colleges to remain open

The directive doesn’t affect Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales where it is to the local authorities to decide on confinement.

 

 

FRANCE

Lockdown started on October 30 until December 1s. Here as well:

  • Population is required to stay at home and can only leave home to go work, buy essential goods, seek medical help or exercise one hour a day.
  • Social gatherings are banned

 

 

BELGIUM

Lockdown started on November 2nd and introduces new restrictive measures:

  • Masks are mandatory at any place if social distancing is not possible
  • Non essential shops are closed (delivery possible). Gyms, pool and other cultural and leisure facilities are closed
  • All restaurants and bars are only open for takeaway until 10pm
  • All schools closed until November 15

 

 

GERMANY

Germany has introduced a partial lockdown until November 30. Under the new system:

  • Social gathering is limited to a maximum of 2 households and no more than 10 people.
  • Restaurants, cafes and bars are closed (except for delivery and take away)
  • Shops and personal care services remain open with strict restrictions.

 

 

ITALY

New system is introduced on November 5 until December 3:

  • Curfew for the all population from 10pm to 5am
  • Restrictions are classified in 3 zones based on each region current health situation, where the red zone ones will be in a lockdown similar to March (restaurants, bars closed; shops closed except for primary needs, no travelling out of the region)

 

 

SPAIN

Regions have power to impose stricter measures to the one introduced by the government:

  • Curfew for the all population from 11pm to 6am
  • Public and private gathering with a maximum of 6 people

 

 

NETHERLANDS

A partial lockdown was introduced by the government until mid-December:

  • Restaurants, cafes and bars are closed (except delivery and takeaway)
  • “Stay at home” measure imposed to all population
  • Social gathering in public places for no more than 2 people and no more than 2 visitors to private residences
  • No alcohol sold after 8pm
  • Travel strongly discouraged

 

 

PORTUGAL

The government has imposed a local lockdown regions on November 4 :

  • Businesses to closed by 11pm and alcohol sold by 8pm
  • “Stay at home” measure imposed to all population (expect for school, work or necessary shopping)
  • Social gathering allowed with a maximum of 5 people
