1965
First location is opened in NY by Alan Stillman, a perfume seller, with TGI standing for “Thank Goodness it’s Friday!”

Interesting Fact:
An airplane propeller is placed in every TGI
Fridays bar to symbolise the engine that moves the business.

1967

Franchising began.

Interesting Fact:
The rowing boat which is found in every TGI Fridays™ restaurant symbolises the team spirit that is required for the effective service of the guests.

1975

Company is sold to the Carlson group. Stillman and the original investors depart.

1989

Company become privately held again. The company focus switches from singles to families.

1997

First casual American brand to open a store in Moscow, Russia.

2011

101 Fridays bartenders together win the
Guinness World record “most people cocktail flaring”.

2019

Company is bought by the TriArtisan Capital Partners. After being sold to Sentinel Capital Partners and Triartisan in 2014, TriArtisan buys the remaining stake from Sentinel in 2019.
