According to the recent UKHospitality Quarterly Tracker with CGA, the UK hospitality industry has lost more than £80bn sales in the last year due to the pandemic.
The total sales for the period from March 2020 to April 2021 were down by 64% vs. prior year – about a £9m drop per hour! The loss is of course directly the result of most venues closed during national lockdowns and confinements. It is estimated that 12,000 premises have closed down in Britain since January 2020 and the others, despite the reopening of outdoor venues, are still under serious strain and won’t go back to normal trading before summer.
