McDonald’s announced the launch of a new serie of plant-based products through its new platform “McPlant”. The platform will start testing plant-based burgers in 2021 in selected markets. The brand also confirms it will introduce a new Chicken Crispy Sandwich in the US market early 2021.
The initiative is in line with the latest fast food market trend with several QSR operators adding plant-based products in their menu – Burger King with its Impossible Whopper as well as Carl’s Jr and Del Taco which have already introduced plant-based items since 2019.
McDonald’s has already been testing a plant-based P.L.T (plant, lettuce and Tomato) sandwich crafted by Beyond Meat s well as the Big Vegan TS introduce in th German market in 2019.
The new chicken sandwich was tested in Houston in 2020 and it is part of the brand effort to introduce a new premium chicken product – following the recent interest around chicken sandwiches from US customers and last year Popeye “chicken war” (read more on our section Insights, “eating for a cause”).
